The Water Safety Plan (PSA) has now been launched in Italy. It consists of the model introduced about 10 years ago by the World Health Organization (WHO) to systematically guarantee drinking water safety, water supply quality and consumer health protection.

The model is based on integrated risk assessment and management from catchment to tap in order to protect original water sources and control the system and processes, thereby guaranteeing long-term absence of potential physical, biological and chemical hazards in water available for consumption. On the basis of the PSA model, the Italian Higher Institute of Health (ISS) has drafted “Guidelines for risk assessment and management in the supply chain of water for human consumption”.
